Twinkle twinkle little star, a new art installation that has the people of Rossendale wondering what you are

On Saturday, 18th September 2010 an exciting new art installation was unveiled high upon Cribden Hill, in Haslingden, Lancashire as part of the Feast Your Eyes at Halo, a free public event hosted by Perspectives of Pennine Lancashire (POPL) and Rossendale Borough Council to celebrate the closing of the Pennine Lancashire Festival of Food and Culture 2010.

View this new film by Maya Chowdhry which captures the process of creating Skymirror and public responses to the experience.

Skymirror is a giant light installation from BREAD Art Collective, paying tribute to the Uffington White Horse.

Skymirror is a sympathetic response to the beautiful Pennine landscape, using over 2000 solar powered lamps, the artists have recreated a shimmering reflection of the night sky on the hillside.

Commenting on the inspiration behind Skymirror, artist David Boultbee said

"We noticed that anything man-made is simply absorbed by this vast environment. The only thing more imposing than the surrounding area is the night sky. Therefore we looked to the stars to provide inspiration for this installation, and using thousands of little lights we hope to leave our own mark on the side of the hill in the shape of the constellation of Pegasus the winged horse."

Skymirror can be viewed from Halo until 16th October 2010. Skymirror has been commissioned by Perspectives of Pennine Lancashire (POPL) and Rossendale Borough Council, funded by Lancashire County Council, MLA Renaissance and the Arts Council England in association with the National Lottery and made possible by the support of Rossendale & Hyndburn Model Aircraft Club.
